Nokia Lumia 620 - The Best Budget Smartphone

Lumia 620 is the third smartphone to carry the Windows Phone 8 operating system. The other two - Lumia 820 and 920 are high-end models, while this one is a more of a mid-range / low-end model.

The closest competitor to this phone is the HTC Windows Phone 8S. Both phones carry a similar spec sheet. Both have a 1GHz dual-core processor, along with 512MB of system memory, a 5 megapixel camera capable of shooting 720p HD videos and a 480x800 pixel resolution screen.

The phone integrates a small 3.8 inch screen, while its competitor carries a slightly larger 4 inch screen. The good part is that the Nokia Lumia 620 comes with 8GB of internal storage space while the HTC WP 8S carries only half that, 4GB. Both phones are pretty similar when it comes to hardware.

Lumia 620 comes on a lot of color options. You can choose between several vividly colored models, ranging from blue to green or red. You can also switch the back cover with that of another color should you get bored with your current color scheme.

The device measures 115.4 × 61.1 × 11 mm. It's a small and clunky phone. It's a bit heavier than you would expect from a device with the aforementioned dimensions. It weighs 127 grams, being a bit heavier than the HTC 8S.

The Lumia 620 offers a pretty good grip when held. You'll soon realize just how durable this phone is and its rounded shape offers a comfortable-enough grip. Measuring just 3.8inches, it's not the largest phone I've laid my hands on, but taking into account that it integrates a decent set of specs, it's still a good phone for those on a limited budget. The screen offers a good 246 PPI, enough for a quality image.

Above the screen you'll find a centered speaker, a frontal .3 megapixel camera on the left side and the Nokia logo on the right side. Under the screen lie the three soft keys which you'll find on most Lumia phones: Start, Back and Search.

The back of the phone remains basic. A pretty large surface consists of just the phone case with the color of your choosing. On the upper side, there's the 5 megapixel camera, capable of HD 720p video capture. On the center of the back cover there another small Nokia logo and on the lower part you'll also find a small speaker.

On the upper side of the phone there's a small microphone on the left side and a 3.5mm audio jack on the right side. On the lower side there's the centered microUSB port for charging and data transfers and on the right side there's another microphone.

On the left side is where the phone lacks any type of special features. There are no buttons or ports of any kind here. On the right side you'll find the physical buttons, with the volume button placed in the upper part, the on/off switch being centered and the camera button being situated just a bit lower.

This positioning is perfect and allows you easy access to all the phones basic functions. The back cover is easily removable. Underneath you'll find the microSD card slot. The Nokia Lumia 620 can support memory cards of up to 64GB storage, which are quite welcome if you're not satisfied with the integrated 8GB memory available.

The Nokia Lumia 620 is a decent budget smartphone and it seems like a perfect phone for young people due to all the color options it comes with, the low price and great structural durability.

It's also a good phone for those who need to test out the new Windows Phone 8 operating system.
